A message from Morten for everyone attending this workshop

The published workshop description says that we will talk you through the installation of Link, Git, GitHub and Acre during the workshop. However, helping people with installation issues could easily consume all the time available. Therefore, we are hoping that you will be able to pre-install most, if not all, of the required software before you arrive.

NOTE

The DropBox folder at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uhz3osthw2umewx/AACQWoPYFIZXjKnOAmhnNkNda?dl=0 contains:
* a set of PowerPoint slides that take you through the installation process
* a text document with some useful links in it
* a workspace containing sample code that will be used during the workshops

You will need the following:

DYALOG APL
* Ideally, Dyalog version 17.1 (Microsoft Windows, Linux or macOS)
* Alternatively: Dyalog version 17.0 (Microsoft Windows, Unicode Edition) with Link installed by following the instructions on the wiki
If you do not have access to one of the above, please contact me for instructions.

SAMPLE APP
* The myapp.dws workspace containing some code that we will be using as an example can be found in the DropBox folder

A GIT CLIENT
As a minimum, you need a command line interface that accepts Git commands at a command prompt. If you are a Linux hacker, you should know how to get that. If you are using macOS or Windows, please install one or both of the following; they will both install a command line interface as well.
* GitHub Desktop (https://desktop.github.com)
* VS Code with the GitLens plug-in (https://code.visualstudio.com/Download)

OPTIONAL: GITHUB USER ID
- A GitHub User ID will allow you to perform all the exercises and participate in collaborative development after the workshop. Having one is highly recommended (but not strictly required to benefit from most of the workshop).

The DropBox folder contains a PowerPoint presentation with screen shots from installation of everything above except Dyalog APL itself, a text file named "Useful Links", and the sample workspace.

IMPORTANT

Please confirm to me which O/S and Dyalog version you will be using, how much of the software you expect to be able to install, and whether you will have a GitHub account. We hope that enough people will be able to perform the installations that the people who cannot will be able to find someone to pair programme with.

Adam and I look forward to welcoming you to the workshop on Sunday 8th and Thursday 12th!
